During the Summer before my Senior Year, I was able to get an internship at Seamon Whiteside, a large civil engineering firm in South Carolina. I worked in both the Summerville and Mt. Pleasant offices as a Civil Engineering Design Intern. Nearly all the work I did at SW+ was in AutoCAD Civil 3D and I was able to learn how to layout site plans, utility networks, exhibits, and residential lot grading. This experience will greatly help me in my future career aspirations as a Civil Engineering Designer.

I hope that my time at Seamon Whiteside has benefitted the company greatly, as I have been able to update nearly all of the company wide construction drawings that are used daily by the engineers employed at the company.

In the future, I will benefit greatly from the experience gained from this internship. I learned how a civil design engineer operates at a firm. Additionally, this experience allowed me to better understand what work I want to complete for my career after graduation. I hope to work on Green-Infrastructure after graduation. During my time at SW+ I have realized that implementing sustainable substitutions can be economically feasible and can create a product that is more in line with a client's values, as well as a city's goals for sustainable development. The professionalism obtained from my experience will be invaluable after I graduate. My ability to collaborate with other engineers will also serve me well where ever I end up, thanks to this experience.
